What is this Workshop About?

This two day event will inspire participants to reflect on the value of obtaining the good things in life and consider how we may support people who may have been marginalised or disadvantaged to have better lives and greater involve- ment in their communities. This event is designed to assist participants to:

  • Understand social devaluation and its consequences,

  • Learn about Social Role Valorisation as a means of addressing experiences of devaluation,

  • Strengthen onesmotivation to counteract devaluation,

  • Clarify the qualities of the good things in life and how they might be facilitated,

  • Understand the importance of valued social roles and how to develop roles that lead to authentic inclusion in ones community.

You will also hear some real lifestories from people who were inspired by this workshop and how they have changed the course of their life! This workshop and will use a combination of lecture, interactive exercises, refection and discussion!


Who is this workshop for?

This event is for anyone who is serious about improving the lives of people who may be at risk of being marginalised or disadvantaged, such as people with disabilities, people with a mental illness, people who are aging and people experiencing poverty or homelessness. It would be of particular interest to people with a disability, their families, students, support workers, planners, LACs, NDIS personnel, professionals, managers, CEOs, policy makers, people in leadership positions and other concerned citizens.

Extended Learning

Attendance at this course is a prerequisite to attend: "PASSING" which extends learning and is a practicum to SRV. PASSING will be held in Lower Templestowe, VIC and is a 4 day event conducted in two parts on 25th/26th July and 22nd/23rd August.

"Facilitating the Good Things in Life" aims to assist Facilitators to enhance their skills and engage in deeper conversations about fostering valued roles in the community with others e.g. Circles of Support. It will be held on 31st of May in Carlton.

By carStudio One Community Hub is located at 15 Barnet Way Richmond.There is very limited street parking available and the veneu strongly recommend you take public transport.

By train: Burnely Station on the Glen Waverley Line, you will then have a 5 - 10 minute walk, see map.

By tram: The number 70 Tram via Swant Street or the number 48 and number 75 via Bridge Road.

Parking at Studio One Community Hub

There is no parking at Studio One Community Hub, and very limited street parking.


To guarantee a place please register early by completing the registration form on line. If requiring a tax invoice please copy the registration form for your records. A receipt will be issued once payment is received. Final Registration refers to registrations and payment received by noon on the 20th April, 2018. If payment is not received by noon on 20th April, 2018, attendance will be declined. Registrations will not be accepted without a fully completed on line registration listing all attendee names and detals.
