Peer into jars and drawers of preserved animal specimens held as part of MAGNT's Scientific Reference Collection.

About this event

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory maintains a collection of more than 600,000 faunal specimens, held for biodiversity research, wildlife conservation, education and exhibition purposes. Learn why museums keep these irreplaceable collections and how specimens are prepared so that they remain scientifically useful for centuries to come.

Join Gavin Dally, Senior Collections Manager Natural Sciences, to explore the Wet store that houses the ethanol preserved specimens and tour the Dry store with Sue Horner, Collections Technician Natural Sciences, to view skins, skeletons, insects, shells and much more.

$12.50 per person | Bookings essential | Capacity limits apply

Key Information

Suitable for ages 6 + | Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Covered footwear required

Participants must be able to remain standing for up to 45 minutes and be comfortable in confined spaces.

Please register at the Information Desk in the Foyer from 10:45am.

Tours depart from outside the main entry of MAGNT at 11:00am.

Tour runs from 11:00am - 12:30pm.

Participants will split into two groups and tour the wet store or the dry store and then rotate. You will spend approximately 45 minutes in each store.

COVID-Safety

While maintaining 1.5m physical distancing from people not known to you is encouraged it will not always possible in our collection stores.

We encourage you to practice good hand hygiene and stay home if you are feeling unwell.

Please contact MAGNT via info@magnt.net.au prior to 10:30am on the day if you need to cancel due to illness.
