Improving Organisational Agility through Project Portfolio Management

Projects are a critical feature worldwide in every industry sector, every business area and every level of government. Projects are being increasingly used by organisations to implement change, improve organisational agility and achieve corporate strategy. Project portfolio management practices are being increasingly adopted by organisations to prioritise and select the right projects to meet strategic objectives.

This event explores the role of project portfolio management and factors that influence organisational performance and contribute to organisational agility. Nick Hadjinicolaou, Assistant Professor and Program Director Global Project Management, Torrens University, will present cutting edge industry research on the subject.

The event also features a discussion panel with two experienced senior project management experts, James Bawtree and Milind Kumar.

Nick Hadjinicolaou

Nick is the Assistant Professor and Program Director for the Global Project Management Program at Torrens University Australia.

Currently he is conducting research in Organisational Agility and Supporting Project Success through the Implementation of Project Portfolio Management. He has presented at National and International project management conferences in Australia in 2016/2017, in Poland in 2016 and Amman, Jordan in 2017. Australian conferences include the 2016 AIPM/IPMG Regional conference and the PMI National Conferences in 2016 and 2017.

Prior to joining Torrens University Australia in 2013 he was a Program, Project and IT Manager for IBM, Telstra, 3Pillars Asia Pacific, BusinessSA, and the State Government of South Australia. He has helped organisations implement Project Portfolio Management and improve organisational performance.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration and Master of Project Management from the University of Adelaide, is a PMI certified Program and Project Manager (PMP,PgMP), AgilePM and a Certified Management Consultant from the Institute of Management Consultants.

With more than 30 years of industry experience in education and senior leadership roles behind him he will present the latest findings on Project Portfolio Management and Organisational Agility.

James Bawtree

James is passionate about improving the way people and organisations deliver their strategic objectives. With more than 17 years’ experience in all major facets of strategy implementation and program management including: roles as portfolio advisor, program director and manager, project manager, organisational change manager, PMO manager and health check / maturity review lead consultant. James also has trained, coached and mentored more than one thousand portfolios, program, PMO, change, benefit and project managers with 100% success rate for certified foundation courses and 90% success rate at practitioner level.

He is the NSW President of the Australian Institute of Project Management, AIPM PMO SIG lead, is a Certified Practicing Project Director, IPMA Level A® Certified Projects Director and has been independently assessed by APMG, through the world’s most rigorous process as an Approved Trainer in Programme, Project and PMO Management. He activity consults in Strategy Execution including Portfolio, Program, Project, PMO, Benefits Management, Health Check and Maturity Reviews, having developed PMLogic’s Strategy Implementation method, he has hands-on, in-depth working understanding of managing in complex environments.

Milind Kumar

Milind is the co-founder of the T3PM Group and a global expert in Project Management, having successfully delivered projects in diverse industry sectors. Milind has a strong reputation of successful delivery for various sizes and types of projects using diverse contracting models. Milind has led multi- award-winning projects and also received world recognition of Global Project of the Year 2013 by Project Management Institute, USA and also by the International Project Management Association, Switzerland. He also received South Australian Premier’s Recognition as part of Water Industry Alliance Award 2013.

Milind is a Fellow of Australian Institute of Project Management. He is a Certified Practicing Project Director and a Graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also Certified Project Manager for ISO 21500, which is the new global standard on Project Management. He is passionate about life-long learning and also growing talent in leadership and management. He has supervised and trained over 1,000 staff and resources and continues to be involved in the Master’s Program in Business and Project Management for Universities in Australia and overseas.
