Tom West learned how to play in the low-lit bars and pubs of Adelaide, Australia. Songs were tested at open mics and schoolyard concerts then later graduating to modest home town shows before playing to packed out crowds at signature venues, festivals and conferences.

West’s performances are characterised by complex patters on unconventional open tuned guitars, haunting melodies with pop sensibilities and a knack for engaging storytelling, delivered via an unforgettable voice.

2014 saw Tom West quit has day job as a lawyer and spread his wings into the Australian music scene, after releasing his first single ‘The Call’ West took to the road captivating audiences all over the country. He finished off the year with some stand out performances at BigSound before heading over to CMJ where he impressed international delegates at his 6 official showcase gigs. Then, to tame his adventurous spirit and to find some musical inspiration Tom West diverted his flight home to a long stop over in Peru. This tested West both socially and musically –“Certainly my time down there (as well as CMJ and the rest of the trip) was a challenge, my language skills are ok, but not quite as good as I thought among other things, however I view my music as the product of all my experiences and the more challenging, the more creative the experience I think” Explains West.

Upon returning home to Adelaide Tom West began finalising a collection of songs drawing from his experiences. Originally planned to be a 4 track EP the now 8 track release comprises of sessions with award winning producer John Castle (Vance Joy, Washington, Josh Pyke), collaborations with friend and Adelaide based musician come producer Todd Sibbin and experimentations in West’s home studio all combined under Castle’s expert intuition. The Extended EP titled ‘Oncoming Clouds’ takes the listener on a journey, truly showcasing Tom West’s unique sound. “Overall, the songs from ‘Oncoming Clouds’ are about yearning for something without really knowing what that is.’” Says West

Australian taste-maker radio station Triple J has described the new material as“Beautiful, warm friendly folk,”. Current single ‘Easy, Love’ debuted on flagship program Home and Hosed in March, featured on Triple J Unearthed, added to rotation on Double J radio and a Double J feature in Feb 2015.
