ToGrows are events organised by Thinking of God, a confessionally Reformed ministry, which seek to strengthen local churches through encouraging church leaders. We do this by encouraging leaders to be:
- Ministered to, as leaders, by God's word - so we'll have an local deliver a Bible talk specifically for us as church leaders;
- Equipped to deal with today's pastoral issues - so we'll have some training from a recognised expert in a contemporary ministry area;
- Supported - so we can pray with and for each other, capitalise off each other's strengths and opportunities, and work together to grow God's kingdom. So we'll have extended times of informal prayer and fellowship.
The Brisbane TOGrow will be kicked-off by Thinking of God's Director of Pastoral Initiatives, Kamal Weerakoon, who will speak on the 'Dynamics of Reformed Theology', and how Thinking of God wants to help encourage the promulgation of solid, Reformed, thought. Mark Baddeley, a lecturer of Systematics at QTC, will also speak on "Justification, Faith, and Faithfulness". Tackling questions such as 'what does it mean to be "justified by faith alone?', 'What is the nature of the faith which justifies?', and 'What does it mean to be "faithful" to this aspect of the gospel?'
Later, Kamal Weerakoon will then provide a pastoral talk regarding a Biblical approach to Gender and Sex, especially in light of the dramatic and fundamental shift occurring within Australian society.
It's our hope and desire that through this event, we will be able to both encourage churches to embrace a healthy, Gospel-centered, form of Reformed confessionalism, as well as to help encourage the Reformed network in Brisbane.
