General Information

The Supply Chain and Logistics Association (SCLAA) in partnership with RMIT University’s School of Business IT & Logistics and Pitchblak are proud to present “To Be Disrupted”

Have you heard of a Hackathon? Well, get ready for the non-coding equivalent – The Ideathon.

We are looking for students and professionals of all types and backgrounds! The only prerequisite is a hunger to challenge the status quo…Get ready to disrupt!

Problem Statements

The event will challenge teams to develop and present solutions to the following two problem statements:

Innovation Challenge A – Waste and Reverse Logistics: Every year Australia sends 500,000 tonnes of recycling waste to China! With China’s recent ban on mixed recycling imports, Australia is presented an immediate issue to be dealt with nationally, and at the same time, presents a huge opportunity to dramatically develop the way Victoria manages the disposal and reverse logistics supply chain.

Innovation Challenge B – Last Mile Delivery: Consumers have never been more demanding on businesses. They want everything cheaper, faster and personalised. This puts incredible strain on a supply chain, in particular, the logistics of the delivery. Innovating the “last mile” is the key to unlocking value in this area. It’s never been more important for businesses to find innovative solutions to this part of supply chain.

  1. Teams will work together under the guidance of expert facilitators to see which ideas are most disruptive, feasible and viable!
  2. Provided with thought-provoking problem statements, dynamic teams will collaborate to innovate futuristic solutions that can be implemented within a 5 to 10-year horizon!
  3. Teams will pitch their solutions at the end of the day to the rest of the Ideathon cohort and our esteemed panel of judges and industry experts.
  4. Prizes will be awarded for the most innovative solutions as scored by our judging panel!

FAQs

What is an Ideathon?

An Ideathon is a short, intensive, workshop experience for participants to work together and address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Participants work in teams and use a hybrid of design thinking and innovative learning practices to ideate and collaborate on possible solutions.

You’re welcome if you are a student, industry professional, developer, or anyone who likes to challenge the status quo… Get ready to disrupt!

When and where is the Ideathon
Registration for The Ideathon starts at 830am on June 22nd at PwC Headquarters in Melbourne. Address: Level 19/2 Riverside Quay, Southbank VIC 3006

Do I need to have a team to register?

No, teams will be created on the day and individuals are encouraged to register. If you have a team that you’d like to work with on the day, make it clear in your registration and we’ll do our best to accommodate!

How will the day work?

You will be provided with additional context to Innovation Challenges A & B at the start of the day. You will then complete a team formation activity and be guided by mentors through a design thinking framework, to develop your team's solution to either problem area! You will have an opportunity to present your solutions to the rest of the Ideathon cohort and judging panel at the end of the day!

Will there be prizes for the winning team!?

Absolutely! We don’t want to give too much away but there will be a cash prize involved and an exciting opportunity to progress the winning ideas further!

Will I need to bring lunch?

Don’t worry about food and drink – we’ve got you covered! Just bring your brain and get ready to have a good time!

What equipment should I bring?

We recommend you bring your own laptops, chargers, devices – anything you need to work! We will provide basic stationary items and access to whiteboards and butcher paper.
