Event description

Description

Join Madeleine Clear, co-founder of Tiwi Design, as she shows archival images and talks about the early years of Tiwi Design in the late 1960s, during which time she worked closely with Tiwi artists. From humble beginnings as a printmaking workshop, the centre went on to gain national and international recognition as one of the earliest and most successful Aboriginal art projects in Australia.

The Tiwi Design art centre continues to produce unique and beautiful work specialising in printed fabrics.

Madeleine Clear is a West Australian artist who spent six years working with Tiwi artists on Bathurst Island from 1968-1974. Subsequently, continuing her own practice, she has held more than 25 solo exhibitions in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney.

Her work is represented in public and private collections nationally and internationally including AGWA, New Norcia, Wesfarmers, Holmes à Court and Imago Mundi (Luciano Benetton).
