Description

Join the YWCA of Victoria and fearless feminist warrior/author/journalist and host Clementine Ford for a spirited discussion surrounding the recent U.S election- the who, what, where, how and whys- and the implications on Australia. Join us and our panel of experts !

Speaker #1- RUBY HAMAD is a writer, filmmaker and Muslim-Australian woman living in Sydney after being based in New York for some time. Her writing focuses on feminism and race issues with a large helping of political analysis. You’ve read her work in Daily Life, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Guardian, The Drum, Crikey and the Age.

Speaker #2- A/PROF BARBARA KEYS, University of Melbourne- Historian, School of Historical and Philosophical Studies.

Professor Keys specialises in U.S. international history and is the author most recently of Reclaiming American Virtue: The Human Rights Revolution of the 1970s. Her research interests include the history of human rights and anti-torture campaigns, international relations and the history of Russia and the Soviet Union.

Speaker #3- SENATOR JANET RICE grew up in Melbourne’s western suburbs, and lives in Footscray with her partner Penny.
After studying climate science at Melbourne University, Janet worked with local communities to protect native forests from logging and make it easier for people to ride their bike and catch public transport.

As councillor and mayor of the City of Maribyrnong, she positioned the council as leading the way in tackling the causes of global warming. Local residents were encouraged to walk, ride and catch public transport, improving their health and reducing pollution from cars and trucks. Janet became a Greens Senator in the federal parliament in 2014.

As the Australian Greens spokesperson for transport, forests, agriculture and LGBTIQ issues, Janet advocates for policies and decision making to be publicly accountable and based on evidence of economic efficiency, social wellbeing and ecological health.

As usual, all profits go towards YWCA's housing, suite of programs and operations. Find out more here- www.ywca.net. Doors at 6:30pm, with Q&A at 7:45pm.
