Description

About this event:

Saturday 8th July
6pm-8pm
Currie Crescent Community Centre at Canberra Baptist Church, 11 Currie Crescent, Kingston ACT
Tickets: early bird $25, general admission from 4th June $35, donation and purchase a ticket for another woman add in options.

Timor Leste (also known as East Timor) has been an independent country for just over 15 years. In the time since independence, the Timorese people have rebuilt their country, from its industry to education, and health systems to its' political systems. Speakers include:
Katrin Hewitt (ACT Timor Sea Action Group)
Beth Parkin (Community Development Worker, formerly with an NGO in Timor Leste)
Gaye Aube (formerly worked in Timor Leste)
Faciliatated by Sarah Burr

But the small country of just 1.2 million has multiple challenges yet to tackle. Still one of the region's poorest nations and health and education and employment statistics show women are disproportionately affected by poverty.

Timor Leste certainly has a big future ahead, and what might it look like? At this special event, Cooking Circles brings together a panel of talented and passionate Australians from diverse backgrounds with one thing in common, Timor Leste. You will be taken on a journey of what Timor Leste looks like today and how the mighty country is striving to become truly independent and become a vibrant, healthy nation.

All tickets and donations are being raised for a community garden being built by a brilliant team of Timorese students from the Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e.

Tickets are purchased via Eventbrite or by reserving your spot on Eventbrite and making payment by bank deposit to Cooking Circles. If you would like a receipt for your ticket purchase or donation, please email cookingcirclescbr@gmail.com
