Event description

Description

This hands on course is ideal for beginners, creatives wanting some fresh ideas or past printmakers keen to get back into this exciting media.

The focus of this 4 week course is Etching on aluminium using a copper sulphate solution. This combination of metal and etch is safer than the tradtional etching process and cheaper. Create line, tone and soft ground effects with this exciting and easy to use process. Raw beginners will be encouraged to try a simple drypoint plate before diving into etching. The more experienced participants will be invited to combine techniques, overprint multiple plates and experiment with chine colle, a la poupee and stencilling to add colour to their prints.

The small group size and collaborative atmosphere make this an enjoyable class with many participants choosing to return course after course.

Megan Lewis is a passionate printmaker with over 20 years experince in Adult Education. The use of safer, alternative materials and methods has influenced Megan's art practice and teaching. Since graduating from the University of Newcastle, with a major in Printmaking, Megan has continued to make and exhibit prints, attend and teach workshops and be an active member of Newcastle Printmakers Workshop.

For your first class bring along a pencil (2B is a good one), a pen, a drawing/ideas book, your favorite t-bag, mug and snack. Wear old clothes and covered shoes.

It is estimated you will spend between $2 and $5 each week, depending on the techique, size and number of prints you make.
