Event description

Description

Did you know that “Prevention” is the most important factor that clients seek out physiotherapy (McRae & Hancock 2017) and do you know how early to start your strategies in your interactions with your clients?

Life Ready Physio presents 2018 Thought Leaders Series titled "Going the Distance" featuring AFL Western Bulldogs Sports Physiotherapist Sara Hasani who is flying in specifically for the evening and Sports Scientist and Head Running coach of Front Runner Ben Green.

Sara and Ben will discuss common barriers to successful end-stage rehabilitation. They will follow this through with focus on end-stage lower-limb rehabilitation, highlighting key areas of focus to assist patients/athletes from injury to pain-free goal attainment.

After drinks and canapés, the symposium will commence with a lecture presented by Sara in which she will share her extensive knowledge discussing:

- When and how to begin prevention planning/strategies with your patients without taking much clinical time.

- The reasoning and thought process to consider, “Why did they get injured?” and “How do we stop them getting injured again?”.

- How to design a comprehensive rehabilitation program. This will include how to modify training around pathology as well as some key tips on assessment, program design and injury prevention.

Following on from this, Ben will present navigating the grey area discussing the next steps in the rehabilitation process focusing on taking patients from injury free to peak performance highlighting:

- How to calculate the appropriate load for your patient as 50% of runners will get injured every year & 60-80% of running injuries are due to training load errors.

- Tailoring exercise prescription & load monitoring striking a balance between goal attainment & injury.

- Principles of programming and exercise prescription in the recreational to the athlete runner.

- How to reduce your risk of injury.
