Event description
Join Tim McKew as he takes you on his biographical journey as one of Australia’s unsung queer heroes.

About this Event

Tim McKew grew up in a working class Irish Catholic family in the 60s, he became a child star on Television. In 1971 in his mid-teens under the advice of the Catholic Church and psychiatric authorities, he was given shock treatment to rewire his gay brain. This set the path for Tim who would within a few short years in the mid-seventies become a queer cabaret anarchist and Performance Artist, shocking and delighting audiences from Melbourne and Sydney to London, Berlin and Shanghai.

Join Tim as he takes you on his biographical journey as one of Australia’s unsung queer heroes.

This event is part of Sydney Mardi Gras.

Tim McKew is a queer trail blazer who took his Performance Art to shop window fronts in Collins St Melbourne, Palms in Oxford Street Sydney, art galleries in Amsterdam, the Berlin Wall and the legendary Blitz Club in London. He has performed with Louis Nowra, was a part of the punk scene supporting Nick Cave, and jammed with Nina Hagen in Berlin. He narrowly escaped the Chinese police in Shanghai, who accused him of promoting homosexuality in China.
