Description

Thomas Hoepker is one of the most acclaimed Magnum photographers of our time, best-known for his reportage and stylish colour features. His pictures of heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, shots from the USA in the 1960s, as well as images taken in New York on September 11 2001 have become iconic.

It's with great pleasure that we welcome you to Leica Store Sydney for 'Thomas Hoepker: Pictures That Last.' A wonderful opportunity to hear from Thomas and experience a selecion of thougtfully curated images. This is a small-medium event held in-store with light refreshments provided. We encourage all Leica customers and members of the public who are passionate about Leica Cameras and photojournalism to RSVP.

ABOUT THOMAS HOEPKER
Thomas Hoepker was born 1936 in Munich,Germany. He studied art history and archeology, then worked as a photographer for Kristall magazine between 1960 and 1963, reporting from all over the world. He joined Stern magazine as a photo-reporter in 1964.

Magnum Photos began to distribute Hoepker's archive photographs in 1964. From 1974 to 78 he collaborated with his wife, the journalist Eva Windmoeller, first in East Germany and then in New York, where they moved to work as correspondents for Stern in 1976. From 1978 to 1981 Hoepker was director of photography for the American edition of Geo.

Hoepker became a full member of Magnum in 1989. Specializing in reportage and stylish color features, he received the prestigious Kulturpreis of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie in 1968. He shot and produced TV documentaries together with his wife Christine Kruchen. He was president of Magnum Photos from 2003 to 2006. A retrospective exhibition, showing 230 images from fifty years of work, toured Germany and other parts of Europe in 2007. Hoepker has published over 30 books. His photographs have been shown in many museums and galleries. He now lives in New York and in Southampton/Long Island.
