Description

This writing workshop is suitable for ages 16+.

This workshop discusses what sets Young Adult fiction apart from other genres, ways to go about writing it, and what’s likely to make a YA book successful in today’s market.

Participants will learn more about YA publishing and how to write their own YA novel, and how to “pitch” to the right audience. Bring your preferred writing materials.

Participants will take away:

  • Greater understanding of the YA market
  • Inside information on the YA publishing world and how to succeed in it
  • Insight on the best ways to go about writing YA

Katie “KJ” Taylor first started publishing when she was a young adult, signing her first publishing contract with Omnibus Books at only 17 years old – much to the surprise of the publisher when they found out. Since then she has gone on to publish fourteen more novels, most of them in the fantasy genre. She was a runner up for an Aurealis Award in 2009, and received a Critic’s Award in 2011. That same year she was named Young Distinguished Alumni by the University of Canberra, for her achievements in writing and publishing. She currently resides in Canberra with several very spoilt pet rats.

Bookings are essential.

Please arrive 10 mins early to allow time to check in; this assists the workshop to run on schedule.

Places are limited to ensure the best possible experience. If you can't attend please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your place to someone else.
