Event Details

This writing workshop is suitable for ages 16+.

Ever wondered about the mysterious craft of screenwriting, or how a script can be turned into a final television or film product? Join Ché Baker and Felicity Packard as they unpack the whole process, from writing to production. They’ll explore:

  • The difference between writing a screenplay and a novel;
  • What TV networks, streamers and audiences want;
  • How to get your big break as a screenwriter); and
  • The role of the writer in film and TV.

Ché ‘Scott’ Baker is an author and film-maker who has recently produced his own feature film - Blue World Order - after returning from middle earth, working with Peter Jackson on his epic trilogy – ‘The Hobbit.’ Ché has been writing for screen in the world of TV commercials, Corporates and Drama for 20 years. The Rule of Knowledge is Ché’s Scott’s first novel, with the novelisation of Blue World Order his second - set for release this year. He is currently working on a slate of film projects and two further novels. Being a producer and having created much of his own content, Ché has a unique inside into what a producer looks for in a script in terms of physical production.

Felicity Packard is a screenwriter and producer. She is co-creator, writer and co-producer of Pine Gap, a drama series currently in production for Netflix. Felicity is one of the writers behind the Underbelly true-crime drama franchise: ‘Underbelly'; Underbelly – A Tale of Two Cities; Underbelly – The Golden Mile; Underbelly – Razor; Underbelly – Badness, and Underbelly – Squizzy, the last three on which she was associate producer. Her writing and producing credits also include ANZAC Girls (2014) and Wolf Creek S1 (2015). She has won five Australian Writers’ Guild Awards and the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award (screenwriting). Felicity teaches Creative Writing part time in the Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of Canberra.
