Event description

Description

Join Karina and Rachel on a Forest Immersion and Work that Reconnects day in the magical
Dandenong Ranges

Discover the knowledge and wisdom waiting for you in the forest. We invite you to step into
our innate connection with all living things, to slow down to remember who we really are.
We will journey into the forest together to ignite and nourish a deep appreciation for the
natural world. This day will cover embodiment practices that will support you to become
part of the healing of the world from a space of love, connection and wonder. We will not
cover a large physical distance. This experience is about becoming present and connecting
with ourselves and the natural world around us. These include sensory explorations, mindful
walking, sharing a meal together and opportunities to express our gratitude to the Earth.
This work is inspired by Joanna Macy’s The Work That Reconnects, deep ecology, spiritual
ecology, forest bathing, rewilding, nature connection and mindfulness principles. We
acknowledge the world at this time needs more people who are connected, who are in tune
with their ecological selves and act from this place on behalf of all life.
We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we will be presenting
and walking on and deeply honour that they were a people who lived sustainability on the
land for thousands of years.

Rachel DeSumma-
Hi there, my name is Rachel DeSumma. I savour moments spent in exploration, discovery,
and connection with the natural world. I am awed by the beauty and perfect imperfection of
nature. My vision is that we become present to our inter-connectedness with the natural
world, and with each other. I offer Forest Immersion walks as a way to experience deeper
connections with ourselves and the natural world around us.
I've completed studies in Psychology and Community Development, and worked for several
years as program coordinator for initiatives that bring people together and facilitate enriching
connections between young people and adults. For three years I have facilitated leadership
and skill building programs for groups of young people. I enjoy holding space, bringing forth
the wisdom of the group, and am humbled by the magic that happens when people come
together and share their experience. You can find me fanning my fingers over fern fronds,
ambling along forest paths and taking naps on warm rocks.
