Event description

Description

This workshop will explore the development of the brain through early childhood, leading up to and throughout adolescence. Participants will gain an insight into the early years and subsequent adolescent development.

We will consider:

  • Why we all should know about adolescent development
  • How genetics, environment and experiences influence who we become as adolescents and young adults
  • The adolescent brain (preteen to adulthood) – a time of “reconstruction”
  • Adolescent interpretations and reactions to events; emotions; risk taking behaviour; and decision making
  • The impact of the changing world, including the impact of technology and social media and the impact of substance misuse
  • What this means for you in your work, as a colleague or as a member of a family or community

The facilitator, Jenny Allen, is the Director of Regional Services for Ngala following a merger with the Geraldton Regional Community Education Centre. Jenny has developed a strong interest in strength based practice, neuroscience and child and adolescent development and how knowledge of these areas can help us build the capacity of children, families and communities.
