About this Event

The Wicked Messenger

Brisbane singer-songwriter Jimi Beavis and bass player Janey Mac are The Wicked Messenger. This is their folk music project featuring death and love.

Named after the biblical and American Gothic-influenced Bob Dylan album John Wesley Harding, the cassette EP is a mix of the banjo blues of Dock Boggs, old time NOLA ballads and Dylan's own take on acoustic folk. It features Jimi's trademark harmonica, banjo and guitar; partner Janey Mac's double bass and her piano debut; bluegrass maestro Dan Kerin on violin, mandolin and dobro; Peta Wilson on piano; and Jimi's Holy Rollercoasters collaborator Andrew Garton.

A Country Practice are a family band. We sing songs about the weather and growing up in Queensland's "food bowl". Nylon strung guitars, distorted beats, brittle domestic keyboards and warm familial harmonies
