Event description

Description

The Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) in partnership with Aboriginal Education and Communities Directorate are pleased to invite NSW Department of Education staff to attend the Warami Mittigar Cultural Walk on Thursday 11 July. The event is also supported by the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, Human Resources and Great Place to Work.

The walking tour and cultural experience will include a Welcome to Country, a smoking ceremony, cultural presentation and a guided, easy walk along the river and in Parramatta Park. This is an opportunity for staff to spend time on country with traditional Darug custodians and to learn about connections to land, plant uses, tools, hunting and other aspects of local culture.

The walk will be followed by a morning tea and a question and answer session with the Aboriginal guides.

Spaces are limited, so get in quick.

Important event information

  • The event starting point is ground floor, 105 Phillip Street, Parramatta and will begin from 10am and end at approximately 1pm.

  • Due to the large number of tickets, walking tours will be split into five separate groups, running at the same time.

  • The activity will NOT be cancelled in case of rain or otherwise adverse weather. Instead, it will become an interactive cultural presentation in the Heritage Centre, where you meet. Should the weather improve, a shorter walk will take place.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time and bring your ticket as proof of registration.

  • Wear comfortable shoes. Bring water and a hat.
