Event description
A seminar/workshop about the work of author and film director Xiaolu Guo

About this Event

What is translation? And what does it mean to translate oneself into a different context? Author and film director Xiaolu Guo grapples with how translation enhances and inhibits the communication of meaning. Through her works she explores the edges of translatability, playing with language to create disruptive reading and viewing experiences. For Guo, this movement through language liberates her words. She describes: “My tongue is tied […] I cannot express my thoughts with only one language. So I translate” (The Guardian 14 Oct 2016).
