Event description

Description

Every high school student has a dream college.

Maybe it takes time to figure out which one it is. Or, maybe you’ve wanted to go there your whole life.

Maybe it’s Columbia. Maybe it’s Yale. Maybe it’s a small, private liberal arts college in Oregon, or an enormous, diverse university in Texas.

Wherever it is, you’ve probably already asked yourself a few basic questions:

  1. How on earth am I going to get in there with all the competition?
  2. What does being a great applicant actually require?
  3. Where else should I apply that would fit me well, even if it's not my dream school?

Since 2013, Crimson has helped students secure 90 offers to Ivy League Colleges and $ 25 million worth of scholarships.

There’s no reason to struggle alone - there are hundreds of successful past applicants willing to lend a hand, to help you answer difficult questions, to guide you, and help you place your best foot forward.

It’s not as hard as you probably think. Contrary to popular belief, you can still study at your dream school without being the head of an international charity, or achieving a 1600 SAT.

At this event, we’ll share knowledge that we’ve spent years acquiring. Our network has hundreds of graduates and current students at top US colleges. We have access to thousands of successful Common App essays and résumés. We've read them and summarised the learnings so you don't have to.

Come and learn from ex-admission officers and successful students how to...

  • Navigate the treacherous application process
  • Present your best self to admissions committees
  • Attend college for free with scholarships or financial aid
  • Make the most of your time at college

The speakers

Soraya Beheshti - Columbia University

Soraya Beheshti is a 21-year old honors student at Columbia University, where she is pursuing a dual major degree in Middle Eastern Studies and Film and an additional concentration in anthropology. She has extensive volunteer experience, having worked as a volunteer teacher in Vietnam, as well as in refugee camps around the Middle East and Europe. She spent last summer studying at the MENA Summer Institute - Columbia’s Global Center in Amman, Jordan. Soraya has since founded a nonprofit organization called Karvan, which is creating a non-monetary economic system that connects citizens and refugees around the world through skill exchanges. She was awarded the Columbia Innovation Grant and is currently a finalist for the Tech.Co Startup of the Year competition. On top of this, she runs a conscious living blog, where she creates content related to eco travel, ethical consumerism and plant based diets.

Jonah Moroh - Harvard University

Jonah hails from Chicago, Illinois and is currently pursuing a Social Studies degree with a focus on Economics from Harvard University. His path to Harvard was strenuous at best — as an early action applicant, he was deferred and ultimately waitlisted during the regular decision round. However, luck was on his side when he received a call from the admission’s department inviting him to join the freshman class in May of his senior year. Since his matriculation to Harvard, Jonah has developed a strong background in management consulting through his work with the Harvard College Consulting Group and the TAMID Group. He spent his last summer interning at the Israeli VC firm Arba Finance in Tel Aviv and forging connections in the fast-paced startup ecosystem.

Sam Hagen - Harvard University

Sam Hagen is a current senior at Harvard concentrating in Theater, Dance, and Media with a secondary in Mathematics. At Harvard, he is primarily involved in the theater and film communities as a producer and director. He also competes for the Harvard Powerlifting Team, qualifying for the US National Championships the past three years. Sam grew up in Gainesville, Florida and, in 2013, won the Florida state championship in weightlifting. He is an avid reader, writer, kayaker, and listener to country music.
