Description

The Territory Remembers WWII – through our eyes is a series of panel conversations with guest speakers who will provide first-hand recollections of WWII in the Northern Territory.

The following guest speakers will exchange stories and reflect on the impact of WWII on their own lives, their families and community:

Mr Eric Lee
Eric was born in Darwin and at the age of six was evacuated with his family to Sydney via the Montoro in December 1941. Eric returned with his sister and father to Darwin in 1946 to live in accommodation above a Chinese business in Cavenagh Street, before other family members joined them and they moved to Parap Camp housing. Eric has lived in Darwin since this time.

Mrs Jane Christophersen nee Ah Mat
Jane was born at Mt Borradaile in West Arnhem Land and grew up at Cape Don on the Coburg Peninsular and Darwin. Jane was a teenager when she was evacuated from Darwin to Pine Creek, and then Alice Springs and onto South Australia.

Mrs Barbara Hostalek nee Parker
Barbara was 8 years old when she was evacuated on the Zealandia in late December 1941, to Brisbane, then onto Moree NSW. Barbara returned to Darwin in March 1946.
