Description

As part of Neighbourhood Houses Barwon's Reconciliation Action Plan and in response to requests for cultural awareness training, we have Glenn Shea facilitating The Storyteller Game, Indigenous Cultural Education Resource.

A big part of cultural delivery is making sure that all peoples have the opportunity to engage in knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal people, society and culture from a generic and non-political perspective through active learning pathways and enjoy their cultural experience as they build their Indigenous knowledge base. It’s great to work collaboratively with community service providers to get the best outcome for our Indigenous and non-indigenous colleagues- Glenn Shea.

Aim

To engage participants in an interactive and creative way as well as fresh, fun and stimulating in a positive and culturally safe environment.

Background

THE STORYTELLER game as an educational resource has been under development for nearly 15 years. In practical form, the game has been utilised in many contexts, including education, community, justice and health settings with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal participants since 2010.

Playing The Game

Glenn will take you through the game working in small groups to increase individual cultural knowledge to enhance cultural appropriate work practices. There will also be ample time to ask questions both from a local perspective and Aboriginal cultural across Australia. There is no need to bring anything just an inquiring mind and a willingness to go on the Storyteller Journey.

Please note: this session is only available to staff, committee members and volunteers of Neighbourhood Houses in the Barwon region.

Lunch will be provided after the session.
