Description

The Public Leadership Research Group (PLRG) at UNSW Canberra invites you to a two-day conference:
The Second UNSW Canberra "Howard Government Retrospective: 1997-2001".

The conference will focus on 1997-2001, commencing with the new Workplace Relations Act (January 1997), continuing with the waterfront dispute (1998) and the decision to intervene in East Timor (September 1999), and concluding with the Aston by-election (July 2001).

Speakers include former Prime Minister John Howard, senior Coalition and Labor figures, leading commentators and notable academics.

In addition to assessing the Howard Government's successes and failures, the conference will consider why the Coalition fared badly at the 1998 election and nearly lost office. The program will enthral everyone interested in Australian politics, economics, labour relations, constitutional affairs and military preparedness.

Wednesday 15 November: 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
