Description

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE LIVE-STREAMED

The Science of Us series will investigate the science of our lives and our health, from the moment of conception through to death, focusing on some of the issues we face during our lives and what science is doing to resolve them.

This month we will discuss the ageing of our bodies and our brains.

Professor Bronwyn Kingswell (Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute)

Bronwyn Kingwell will delve into how our bodies age, and the impact of our environment and genetics on our heart, blood vessels, muscles, joints and more. She will also look at how chronic disease can occur as we age. But it’s not all doom and gloom! Bronwyn will also discuss how to reduce your ‘biological’ age despite advancing years.

Professor Kaarin Anstey (UNSW Sydney and NeuRA)

Cognitive abilities such as memory, mental speed, general knowledge and executive function change over the adult life course with some abilities increasing and others decreasing. Kaarin will discuss normal cognitive ageing, gender differences in cognitive abilities, the factors that influence the enhancement, maintenance and decline in brain function in ageing, and risk reducing strategies for cognitive decline.

Refreshments served from 5:30pm, talk begins at 6:00pm

All attendees must agreed to participate under the Academy's Code of Conduct.
