SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY:
Umair graduated from the University of Dundee in 2010 and worked for 2 years in Edinburgh and Fife, in practice, hospital and community settings. He then travelled to Australia where he worked in Sydney and Perth.
On returning home, he spent 5 years in NHS practice before moving in to private practice in 2018 at Cherrybank Dental Spa and SmilePlus Dental Care.
In 2014, he passed the MFDS RCS (Edi) examinations.In 2022, he became one of only five dentists in the world to be awarded an MSc in Sports Dentistry (with distinction) from the prestigious UCL Eastman Dental Institute.
Umair is one of the co founders of the UK Sports Dentistry Association and South Africa Sports Dentistry Association, a member of the European Association for Sports Dentistry and one of the lecturers on the online Sports Dentistry programme Tackling Teeth, an introductory course to Sports Dentistry and one of the co hosts for the popular podcast, the Sports Dentistry Podcast.
Umair is officially affiliated with Edinburgh and Scotland Rugby, Cricket Scotland and provide ad hoc services to elite athletes in Scotland through Scottish Institute of Sport. He is present on match days, pitch side, as part of the field of play medical staff providing immediate assistance for any oro-facial related injuries. Umair was also part of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, where he was the sports dentist covering the basketball 3×3 and beach volleyball events.
