Event description
Learn about the Psychology of Extreme Sport Athletes with ACAP Professor, Dr. Eric Brymer.

About this Event

Learning from Extreme sports: Implications for wellbeing and performance

Extreme sports like BASE jumping, big wave surfing and rope free climbing have a reputation as outlets for hedonists, thrill seekers and deviant behaviours, but is this too simplistic? Is it really the case that someone would put their life on the line for leisure just for the thrills? This presentation will outline an alternative perspective on extreme sports and extreme sport athletes that has implications for understanding human behaviour.

This session will enable you to: (a) understand and define extreme sport participation as more than an opportunity for risk taking (b) understand extreme sports participation as relevant across multiple modes of wellbeing (c) apply these learnings to your professional context.

Key outcomes:

1. Understanding emergent research into motivations and outcomes of extreme sport participation

2. An examination of how to apply learning from research means for human services.

About the presenter
