Many refugees and asylum seekers have compelling stories to tell and wish to tell those stories. However, many have reasons for wanting to remain silent; sometimes their stories are misappropriated or simply ignored.

How can refugees and asylum seekers share their stories so they feel safe, understood and respected? How can we reach audiences who should be listening to these stories? How does storytelling help create greater understanding on issues faced by refugees and asylum seekers?

Sri Lankan-born playwright Dhananjaya Karunarathne, creative writer Saleh Khani - an asylum seeker from Iran -, and Rosie Scott, who co-edited an anthology of writers in detention with Thomas Keneally, will speak at SSI's special Refugee Week Speakers’ Series event.

They will discuss the role storytelling plays in giving voice to refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia.

Ticket registration is FREE: Gold coin donations will be taken at entry, with money raised used to support SSI's Arts and Culture program.
