Event description

Description

Open dialogue is something almost all companies aspire to but rarely achieve. In large part, this is because the approach is not well understood. Very often corporate leaders pay lip-service to open dialogue but operate within a culture that is not structured around its basic principles.

Open dialogue is often misunderstood as referring simply to “open communication”, “brain-storming sessions”, or “team bonding exercises”. In fact, open dialogue is none of these things. It is a new way of relating that makes everyday organisational interactions between people more meaningful and empowering.

In this high-level workshop we will examine questions such as what is open dialogue? What are its key principles? How does it work? What does it mean to lead within an open dialogue culture?

A quick example from a participant in an earlier workshop:

As head of a government department, Lina faced a split of views across two key factions within her staff. Every attempt she made to resolve the differences only seemed to make things worse. During the workshop, Lina learned how to validate and welcome the diverse points of view as opportunities to deepen mutual understanding. By her letting go of trying to ‘fix’ the problems her staff had assumed greater responsibility for their part in the drama. The differences persisted but the significance of these now seemed to pale against a shared desire to build a better culture.

The emphasis of this workshop will be upon practical applications of the approach to your role as a leader in your organisation.

Workshop leader & facilitator:

Quyen Ngo CPA has worked in senior finance roles across Asia and Australia for more than 20 years.

As the CEO and founder of Q Financial Horizons (a virtual CFO and executive coaching company) and convener of the CPA Directors Discussion Group, Quyen is passionate about addressing far more than the technical, analytical and financial considerations within a firm or industry. She believes it necessary to accord equal value to human engagement through creativity, diversity and quality of dialogue.

Quyen coachs business leaders to maintain a balance between these perspectives in the knowledge that, ultimately, this will drive business outcomes. Quyen chaired the recent Chief Financial Officer's Summit in Sydney hosted by Konnect Learning.
