The NFP Balancing Act: Thinking commercially, acting benevolently

For not for profit community sector organisations, an interesting dichotomy exists. On the one hand, we are service-oriented, benevolent enterprises whose primary focus is the wellbeing of the disadvantaged in our communities. On the other hand, we must deliver services to this group in a way that is commercially viable, with minimal financial risk and within shifting legislative frameworks.
So how do not for profits successfully manage this balancing act, without falling over?
Community Business Bureau Inc. (CBB) has been working with not for profit organisations around Australia for more than 20 years, in the areas of strategy, governance, finance, HR, marketing and salary packaging.
During this time we’ve assisted hundreds of not for profits to build capacity, enhance their sustainability, streamline operations and maximise resources. And as a not for profit social enterprise ourselves, we understand the unique challenges faced by the sector in balancing the ‘double bottom line’ of financial and social objectives. What will the workshop cover?
In this practical half-day workshop, our resident experts will draw upon their knowledge of working directly with not for profits as well as running a successful not for profit. Come prepared to have your thinking challenged and be pushed outside your comfort zone – this workshop is about applying some ‘tough love’ to the way you manage your not for profit and helping you to take your organisation to the next level.

Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for not for profit CEOs, board members, senior managers and anyone with operational responsibility in a not for profit organisation.
Participants will gain the most benefit if they attend with one or more colleagues, however, this is not essential.
Car parking will be available at the Mantra Pandanas at the reduced rate of $10 for the day. Upon arrival, stop and park at the front of the property and go to the reception counter. Staff will then accept payment and provide directions on parking and locating the workshop room. Please note: Parking fees are NOT included in your event registration. Please ensure you arrive early to avoid any potential delays.
