For not for profit community sector organisations, an interesting dichotomy exists. On the one hand, we are service-oriented, benevolent enterprises whose primary focus is the wellbeing of the disadvantaged in our communities. On the other hand, we must deliver services to this group in a way that is commercially viable, with minimal financial risk and within shifting legislative frameworks.
So how do not for profits successfully manage this balancing act, without falling over?
Community Business Bureau Inc. (CBB) has been working with not for profit organisations around Australia for more than 20 years, in the areas of strategy, governance, finance, HR, marketing and salary packaging.
During this time we’ve assisted hundreds of not for profits to build capacity, enhance their sustainability, streamline operations and maximise resources. And as a not for profit social enterprise ourselves, we understand the unique challenges faced by the sector in balancing the ‘double bottom line’ of financial and social objectives. CBB is living proof that a not for profit organisation cannot only survive but thrive in today’s market; we’re fully self-funded using a fee-for-service model.
