featuring Freddy Nietzsche's Good Time Bebop Quintet

Excommunicated televangelist Neville Umbrellaman brings you a late-night radio show for lonely people, featuring spiritual visions, romantic advice, insomniac callers, and guest performances.

With comedians Jennifer Wong (How to English Harder), Penny Greenhalgh (The Checkout, ABC TV), and Madeleine Stewart (MY:24, ABC3), singer/songwriter Zeadala (The Night Sky, Bankstown Arts Centre), and bebop music from the spirit of Friedrich Nietzsche.

This event is suitable for audience 16 years and over.

{The line-up}

Neville Umbrellaman

Nitin Vengurlekar is a writer and performer from Bankstown who works across the fields of contemporary theatre and alternative comedy. He has performed his short comic pieces and full-length theatre works at various festivals and literary/alternative comedy events around Sydney, including Late Night Library, Griffin Up Late, Parramasala, Bondi Feast, Sydney Writer’s Festival, and the Secret Garden Festival. He wrote material for and performed in Nitro Theatre and Bankstown Arts Centre’s large-scale community productions of The Prophet: Remix and The Night Sky, directed by Felix Cross.

Jennifer Wong is a comedian and writer from Sydney known for her bookishness and love of wordplay. She has performed at arts and comedy festivals in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Edinburgh, and Shanghai. Her recent stand-up show, How to English Harder, sold out in Melbourne and Sydney.

Madeleine Stewart, as seen on ABC3’s MY:24, finds joy in ripping her limbs off in public, and has been a part of in the Sydney Fringe festival, Sydney Comedy festival and Melbourne Comedy Festival. She has worked with comedians such as Julia Morris and Adam Hills. Madeleine is no stranger to the Bankstown Arts Centre as she was part of the forum 'Where I Live' in 2015. In September, she will present her new work Get Happy at the 2017 Sydney Fringe Festival.

Penny Greenhalgh is an award-winning comedian, actor, writer and director. A rising star of Australian comedy, she performed live on Comedy Central Australia and New Zealand, wrote and produced sketches for ABC Fresh Blood, toured Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, was a regular cast member on John Conway Tonight, and she’ll be appearing on South Korean TV later in the year as part of the Busan International Comedy Festival.

Zeadala is a singer, song-writer based in South West Sydney, who avidly addresses themes of love, loss and self-reflection in her works. Her sounds range from folk to bossa nova to Hip Hop. In 2013 she worked with Hip Hop artists Trey and The 26th Letter on the soundtrack to Tough Beauty, directed by Claudia Chidiac at the Casula Powerhouse. She has appeared in various productions at the Bankstown Arts Centre, including The Night Sky. This year, she supported international Hip Hop acts such Brother Ali and Atmosphere and is currently working on her Debut EP

Felix Cross
Artistic Director of Nitro Theatre UK from 1996-2015. In England, he has written, directed, composed and produced over 150 theatre productions. Since arriving in Sydney Felix has been working extensively with BYDS and the BAC partnership co-production of The Prophet; he also directed Leyla & Majnun at Blacktown Arts Centre and Spirit of Things by Stiff Gins at Liveworks and Yirramboi festivals. As a composer in Australia, he has written music for Australian Theatre for Young People, La Boite, Brisbane and Aphids, Melbourne. In 2012, he was awarded an MBE for services to Musical Theatre.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Bankstown Arts Centre is within five minutes' walking distance from Bankstown station and Bus interchange. Free 4 hours (4P) parking is available at the community car park located along Olympic Parade. Also, four other community car parks are within walking distance to the Centre.Download a parking map around the Arts Centre.

Visitors with restricted mobility can enjoy all public spaces at the Arts Centre. Disabled parking is also available at Olympic Parade car park.


What can/can't I bring to the event?

You can bring a picnic to the Arts Centre Courtyard before the event.

Bankstown Arts Centre office opens Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, please contact us on 9707 5400 for all enquiries.


Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No need to print out your ticket, just arrive 30 mins before the show starts.
