Join us for an insightful night of discussion on the topics of Big Data & Analytics with some of Australia’s foremost experts in the field. Our distinguished panel includes:

  • Mr Ian Bertram – Global Manager of the Analytics and Business Intelligence Research team at Gartner
  • Mr Antony Ugoni – Head of Marketplace Analytics at Seek Limited
  • Mr Andrew Condron – General Manager, Analytics at Telstra
  • Mr Gideon Ratner (Moderator) – Principal at Quantium


The panel will discuss the growing importance of Big Data & Analytics in today’s highly competitive environment, the role of Senior Management in establishing and governing analytic teams, and share their insights into the unique challenges the field presents.

Speaker Biographies


Ian Bertram
is the Global Manager of the Analytics and Business Intelligence Research team at Gartner and holds the title of Head of Research for Asia/Pacific. Mr. Bertram leads a team of analysts who focus on Big Data, Business Analytics, Content Analytics, Business Intelligence and Performance Management. The analysts within this team cover ountries across the globe, publishing research and advising clients on strategic and tactical advantages with respect to trends in business intelligence and information management. Mr. Bertram is a high profile analyst having written numerous reports, presentations and media interviews with CNBC, Bloombergs, CNN, Chanel News Asia and BBC on various topics including Big Data, Information Management trends, Business Analytics and Emerging Technology.
Prior to joining Gartner in November 1998, Mr. Bertram was with IBM for 10 years, most recently as Asia Pacific Brand Manager. He held a variety of roles over this period, including financial analyst, new market development manager, IBM direct programs manager, and product management and brand marketing manager over this time. Mr. Bertram is based in Gartner's Sydney office.

Antony Ugoni
is one of Australia’s leaders in analytics and currently the Head of Marketplace Analytics at SEEK Ltd. Antony began his career as a Biostatistician to the Alfred Group of Hospitals jointly with Monash Medical School. He then moved to a lecturing role in Biostatistics at the University of Melbourne. Antony has co-authored more than 50 peer reviewed articles in medical research and still actively contributes to this industry today. From 2000 to 2012 Antony worked at National Australia Bank leading many ground breaking teams and projects. Antony started as the lead for its Credit Card Fraud Analytics Group (the first of its kind in Australia) which used data driven insights to reduce fraud losses by more than 50%. Antony was then offered the opportunity to lead the Customer Analytics team which in his tenure identified more than $100b worth of revenue opportunities. Antony holds an MSc from LaTrobe University and is an Associate Lecturer at the School of Physiotherapy, University of Melbourne.

Gideon Ratner
is a Principal at Quantium, Australia’s largest and most respected data analytics consultancy. As a member of the Exec, Gideon leads a large team of data scientists and is also a part of the company’s ‘Future Group’, which aims to identify long-term growth opportunities. Based in Melbourne, Gideon joined Quantium to establish the local presence of the firm’s data-driven consultancy that uses de-identified ‘big data’ from NAB, Woolworths and Foxtel to inform challenging business questions. Gideon works closely with execs and senior leaders from some of Australia’s most iconic companies including major banks, retailers, insurers and online businesses. Additionally, he has played a key role in Quantium’s strategic data partnerships, most recently with Facebook.
Previously Gideon was at NAB where he was part of the bank’s strategy team followed by a stint working for the CMO. Prior to this he was in management consulting. Gideon holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School and a bachelor of Computer Science. He speaks regularly at industry conferences and universities.

Andrew Condron
has a career spanning over 20 years in Analytics across Banking, Finance and Telecommunications, with experience both locally and in Europe. He is currently General Manager of Analytics at Telstra in the Chief Marketing Office and also sits on the Advisory Board for the Centre for Business Analytics at Melbourne Business School. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Pure Mathematics and a MBA from Melbourne Business School. He has a passion for data driven decision making, and in particular building capabilities in organisations to use data science to inform and optimise every day operational actions.
