Event description

Description

Scintilla Performance is proud to present Oscar Wilde's perennial comedy classic, The Importance of Being Earnest, performed by members of its 2017 young-adult acting troupe!

When philandering playboy, Algernon Moncrieff, discovers the duplicitous secret identity of his best friend, Jack Worthing, a series of scandelous misadventures are set into motion. Just who is the mysterious Earnest, and to whom has be been betrothed? Do all women become like their mothers? And if one has no taste for teacake, why on earth would one serve it? Only Earnest knows the answer - and discovering his identity may very well crumble the stiff-upper-lip of London's high society...

Oscar Wilde's farcical comedy of mistaken identities, muffin fights, and unusually large handbags is reimagined by a cast of fabulous young performers in this dynamic and energetic production, performing cafe-style at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre and gardens these Winter school holidays!

Performances are twice daily at 11:00am and 1:30pm (July 7 & 8), with an 1:30pm show on Sunday, July 9. Show duration is approx. 70 minutes.

Please note, seating is cafe-style, with 3 chairs to each table. We will try to reserve bookings of 4 at their own table, but can't guarantee larger groups will be seated together.

Complimentary morning tea is provided with each ticket.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

All performances are appropriate for all ages, however those with very young children should be aware that tables will be set with cups, saucers, and hot water, as well as a selection of sandwiches. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the performance's catering, dietary requirements cannot be catered to (however, no food provided will contain nuts).

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is limited parking available in the Box Hill Community Arts Centre carpark (adjacent to the Centre), as well as in the surrounding streets. Several buses service the Centre from Box Hill Station, and the Centre itself is a short 6-8 minute walk.

What can I bring into the event?

Please refrain from bringing food and drink into the Centre; light refreshments will be provided by our sponsors.
