The Illusion of Fame Exhibition by AZZURRO
Event Information
About this Event
With this exhibition we are hoping to draw attention to the ridiculousness of celebrity and that it is clearly plagued with a dark side but wrapped in glamour. The aim of the exhibition would be the realisation that our accepted methods of gauging fame and success are not externally valid as they do not seem to represent what they claim to measure; people can have huge followings for achieving largely nothing- and on the flip side of the same coin, others can pull hundreds of people into a room without having a ‘significant’ following at all. There are massive celebrities from the 90s and 2000s that enjoy no such fame in the social era, either because their fame doesn’t translate over, or they have snubbed the social platforms. Others like Paris Hilton and Lady Gaga are using their fame to cry out about how debilitating and personally compromising fame can be. On yet another level, celebrities have the (self-perceived) power to disrupt or influence politics, yet aren’t earning fame for any reasons that should relate to this authority being granted to them. The world grows increasingly horrified and unaccepting of Britney Spears’ entire adult livelihood being possessed and shilled out by her father...
For this exhibition, all artists involved are superstar famous with millions of followers. The show asks them; 'What would your artwork look like at your peak of fame? Does fame matter? Is it real? Does it change an artist? What does it cost?'
All exhibited artworks $50, $100, or $200.
Prints and artist merch available! Earrings, rings, tees, pins, stickers and more.
Tickets $10 per person, booked sessions at 6 and 8. Open until midnight- no start time, no speeches, no gatherings. From 9:30, the art starts to go home with its buyers!
Completely artist-run, all sales support the artists and their future shows as a team. Curated by AZZURRO. Artists set their prices and retain 100% of their sales.
Please support our venue Chateau Apollo by taking advantage of the food and drinks on offer at Roxies, Midnight Spagghetti, and Crown and Anchor Hotel nextdoor.
