Event description

Description

Hypnotherapy HQ is proud to present this very SPECIAL workshop.

Dr Simone Peters breaks down IBS and how to treat it using Counselling and Hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis has been shown to be an effective treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in a number of clinical studies. Hypnotherapy for IBS involves progressive relaxation, and then suggestions for the control and normalisationof gut function. Metaphors are also used to bring about change. Improvements in symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, wind, diarrhoea and constipation as well as overall well-being, quality of life, anxiety and depression have been noted.

This interactive 1-day workshop will provide therapists with a summary of IBS, latest research findings including the role of the brain-gut-axis and an overview of the use of hypnosis (as well as other therapeutic modalities) as a treatment for IBS.

The workshop will include:

introduction to IBS
how it is diagnosed
available treatments
related comorbidities
demonstrations of IBS-focused evidence-based psychological interventions

What will participants get out of the workshop?

 Up-to-date information about IBS, its diagnosis, and current research findings
 Practical experience with assessing IBS activity and comorbid psychological distress
 Guidelines and resources to use with clients who experience IBS
 Practical experience in utilising cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness, and hypnosis to reduce IBS symptoms and related psychological distress behaviour therapy, mindfulness, and hypnosis to reduce IBS symptoms and related distress.

Dr Simone Peters is the founder of The Mind + Gut Specialist Clinic. She is a specialist in treating disorders involving the brain-gut axis. Simone completed her PhD with the Department of Gastroenterology Monash University. During her candidature she investigated the use of gut-directed hypnotherapy in patients with irritable bowel syndrome and her data have shown it to be superior to that of the first line dietary therapy, the low FODMAP diet.

Simone has presented this work nationally and internationally and has multiple first-author publications in world-renowned peer-reviewed journals. Simone worked at Shepherd Works for four years before becoming the first hypnotherapist to be employed in the public health care system in Australia. She now runs the Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy Program at the Alfred Hospital Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Clinic in Melbourne. Simone has also spent time with Prof Peter Whorwell (the founder of gut-directed hypnotherapy) in the UK and is trained in his techniques.

Simone continues to be heavily involved in advancing research in this area and works for the Monash University FODMAP Research Team.
