Description

The IAH WA Tech Talks feature speakers from hydrogeology and related sciences. These monthly events are the premier networking opportunity for water professionals in Western Australia.

Tech Talks are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month.

For our February event, IAH Western Australia is pleased to host Fred Verheyde, Principal Geotechnical Engineer and WA Branch Manager at Douglas Partners.

How do Perth Basin aquifers tie together in the geology of the metropolitan area? We know the basics but how can you explain it all in a 40 minute presentation? Fred Verheyde is best placed to meet this challenge, having given presentations about the local geology to a variety of audiences. In this presentation Fred summarises, in simple terms, the geology of the Perth metropolitan area. He begins with a temporal and spatial outline of the broad geological and tectonic settings at a Western Australian scale, to provide an understanding of major local geological features such as the Darling Fault. The presentation then converges to an overview of the soils encountered at ground surface in the Perth area and will also discuss sea level changes in Fremantle. This presentation combines recently published breakthroughs regarding the deep geology in WA and the author’s extensive experience with the local superficial geology in Perth. It’s a specialised talk presented with simple terms. Numerous graphs and photographs ease the understanding throughout the presentation.
