Event description

Description

This field trip will highlight the transformation that is underway of Stansfield Reserve at Coal Point after the medium-high intensity environmental burn of 6/4/16.

If you’ve ever wondered about the difference a fire can make this site provides a unique insight. Half of the Asparagus aethiopicus infested reserve was burnt and is now undergoing a native regeneration explosion. The other half is still in the grip of the berry bearing groundcover.

Flora survey quadrats were established prior to the burn event. Regular monitoring has been undertaken and the local group is trialling different techniques to manage the Asparagus fern regrowth.

The project has been overseen by the Coal point Progress Association landcare group, the fire was coordinated by Lake Macquarie City Council with Fire & Rescue and RFS.
