Event description

Description

Near naked at the beach but not one block back from the sand. Nudes on art gallery walls but never offices. Children under three okay but not over five. Women on screen but rarely men. What regulates our contextual rules of nudity?

The ethical tensions over nakedness abound. Promoting modesty or body shaming. Sexualised or functional. Offensive or judgemental. Women and girls in particular seemed damned if they do and damned if they don’t when it comes to showing a bit of skin. And what of the clothed body, with all the markers of class, social status and culture that brings?

We have laws regulating indecent exposure and social media community standards allowing some but not all women’s nipples to be shown. The naked form has always been a core subject of art yet what constitutes nudity has never in history been agreed upon. Is a loincloth clothing? A midriff top? Debates over what’s appropriate for kids, teens, women, advertising and Instagram suggest we are no closer to unified opinion.

Oh yeah, there will be nudity.

Please note this is an 18+ event.
