Event description

Description

The second part of this 2-part workshop series will provide participants with more strategies to immerse their children and students in process drama and creative body based learning with a focus on storytelling, along with applications to the literacy, numeracy, personal and social, and critical and creative thinking general capabilities of the Australian Curriculum.

This unique professional learning opportunity will support early years and primary teachers in applying practical tools across the curriculum. The 2 half day sessions will be presented by well known SA performing artist Eliza Lovell and early years educator Natalie McCarl. With several weeks in between each event, participants will have time to implement ideas into practice and return to day 2 to reflect and build on understandings and strategies.

You don't have to have attended the first workshop to be able to attend the second one.

When:

Workshop 2: Thursday 31st August 4:30-6.30pm

Where:

Pembroke Junior School, 11 Walsall Street, Kensington Park

Who should attend?

With a particular focus for teachers from preschool to upper primary, the 2 workshops will also feature strategies and learning adaptable for secondary drama teachers.

More about the pedagogies and the presenters:

Process Drama is a method of teaching and learning where both the students and teacher work in and out of role and can be used to teach a wide range of concepts, stories or social skills. In her education degree, Natalie McCarl specialised in primary drama education and the planning and use of process drama within the classroom. She has worked as a classroom and specialist teacher in both the UK and South Australia. In her current role, she teaches ELC to Year 6 drama and music to lower primary classes.

Creative Body-Based Learning (CBL) utilises active and arts based approaches to engage students. It’s academic, affective and aesthetic and can be applied across all areas of the curriculum. This workshop will provide hands-on exploration of body based strategies to activate classroom curriculum: to deepen and personalise learning, and to collaborate and build a successful classroom community. Eliza Lovell is a performer, theatre-maker and teaching artist. In June 2017 Eliza travelled to the University of Texas, (Austin) where she collaborated and facilitated the 2017 Summer Institute (Drama for Schools) applying strategies to both a primary and secondary context. Eliza currently has CBL residencies at Christie Downs PS, Flaxmill PS, O'Sullivan's Beach PS and Lonsdale PS.
