The Comedy Lab – Comedy Workshops
Calling all comedy lovers!
Do you like sketch comedy and stand-up comedy?
Ever thought of writing jokes of your own?
Ever thought of working in a comedy writing group?
Have you ever seen yourself performing stand-up comedy?
Mary Luckhurst’s Comedy Lab is partnering with comic Nelly Thomas, Women with Disabilities Victoria and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on a project to encourage comedy writing and stand-up comedy. The aim of the project is to craft a five-minute performance routine promoting disability rights. We are looking for keen writers and/or performers with strong opinions and a curiosity about life and people. No experience needed! No one will be forced to perform. You can come and just have a look. Even if you don’t perform, you will pick up some writing and public speaking tips.
In a series of five workshops you will learn the basics of joke writing, joke telling and comic delivery. You will work with one of Melbourne’s most loved and right-on comediennes, Nelly Thomas, and have an opportunity to perform at a live event. This project honours the work of the late and great Stella Young, an extraordinary activist, writer and comedian.
Workshops are free but you will need to attend all 5 sessions.
