Wednesday Morning Classes
Come along to this small and relaxed 4 week hands-on course, aimed at beginners and past printmakers wanting a refresher. Students will explore the many possibilities of the collagraph print, a very affordable printmaking technique that can produce interesting and often unexpected results. Students will create a variety of collagraph plates using matboard, looking specifically at incising and peeling away layers of the plate, and applying textures, paint mediums and glue onto the plate surface. Students will be encouraged to experiment with and develop many variations and combinations within this technique including multiplate prints, al la poupée, chiné colle and multi-colour prints.
Course notes and some materials will be provided. A small materials cost of $20 will be payable at the first session where students will receive a starter pack to kick start these classes. Students can bring in images and ideas to work with, or work on ideas during class time.
Valé Zakarauskas is passionate about printmaking working across a variety and combination of techniques, and finds collagraphy works well in combination with other printmaking techniques.
Valé holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in printmaking. Valé exhibits regularly in Newcastle and beyond and is a member at the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop.
