Event description

Description

The Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) is committed to supporting excellence in the South Australian legal profession. CPD Central is an AGD initiative.

The following seminar is open to all South Australian legal practitioners. Attendance may count towards Mandatory Continuing Professional Development requirements.

The Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016

Presented by Joanna Martin

The South Australian child protection system has undergone significant reform in the wake of both the South Australian Royal Commission into Child Protection Systems (the Nyland Royal Commission) and the Federal Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Key reforms to the rules and processes around working with children checks (WWCCs) are proposed under the new Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 and its associated regulations. Draft regulations are currently subject to public consultation and can be found here: https://www.agd.sa.gov.au/projects-and-consultations/child-protection-reform/working-children-checks. This seminar will present an overview of this proposed new WWCC regime in South Australia, and provide lawyers with the information to update their clients, as both employers and employees, as to:

· Who needs a WWCC

· How to obtain a WWCC

· How often it will need to be updated

· How WWCC information may be used and shared.

Date: Monday 5 March 2018, 1 pm – 2 pm
Venue: Room 1, Level 1, Flinders University Building, Victoria Square (entry on Flinders Street)
Cost: Free for AGD employees, $40.00 fee applies to other SA Government employees and Non-Government organisation employees
