Event description

Description

Children back to school! Time to unwind, relax and treat yourself to a long lazy lunch with friends enjoying glorious Mornington Peninsula food and wine sourced all within 20 miles from our beautiful venue Hillock Downs in Rye.
Menu will be created by Marlene Hoff the 100 mile foodie using locally sourced produce focusing on seasonality, sustainability and ethical farming. Here on the Mornington Peninsula we are truely spoilt for choice when it comes to fresh, local food.

We are very lucky to have a wonderful guest speaker for our event who will give a short but very informative speech to why our soil needs to be in good nutitional condition to create high nutritional value in our foods.

DR MARY COLE PhD MAIA, MAIEA, MSA

Director & Principal Scientist, Agpath Consultant Mycologist/Plant Pathologist.

The nutrimental content in foods is only as good as the soil in which they are grown and the time lapse from paddock to plate. Farming one’s soil in a biological (chemical free) paradigm as the first priority is a guarantee of more nutritionally dense food, free from contaminating fertilisers, herbicides and fungicides. Nutritional quality of fresh foods is declining in part from soil mineral depletion by conventional agriculture. U of California researchers show that vegetables can lose 15-55% of VC within 7 days; some spinach can lose 90% with the first 24 hours after harvest. There is more than enough international evidence to show that using locally grown foods especially, if they are grown biologically or organically, leads to good gut health while improving the soil health at the same time. Win-win all round!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An exciting time of the time of the year perfect for long lazy lunches with friends so let me treat you to a relaxing, indulgent food and wine feast for your eyes and your palatte celebrating all things Summer with a Mornington Peninsula theme.
Local olives, cheese, fruit, vegetables and smallgoods wil overflow on the antipasto platters served with a glass of Crittenden Geppeto bubbles to start off this celebration.
Hillock Downs Beef, Woolumbi Farm Ham, Hawkes potatoes, Benton rise farm and Peninsula Fresh Organics seasonal salad greens and vegetables for entee and main.
The first of the regions berries will be on show for dessert with a handmade gelato, fresh fruit and lots more.
We look forward to you joining us to Celebrate Summer Mornington Peninsula style.
