Event description

Description

“The Boy on a Bike” author and Wanneroo local Gerald Searle will share some tips on memoir writing. Gerald will also tell his fascinating story about growing-up in “colourful” Cape Town, South Africa and serving as a Catholic priest in the disreputable District Six. He will share his adventures from seminary years in Rome and also experiences as a new Aussie.

About Gerald Searle

Gerald was born in 1936 and grew up in a Cape Town two bedroom cottage with nine other siblings. He spent seven years studying at a Pontifical university in Rome and returned to apartheid South Africa as one of the first “coloured” Catholic priests. He left the priesthood to marry and eventually emigrated to Australia. He has been a public servant as well as a senior community & church worker. He has written three books, six plays and is now actively retired.
