The Big Idea Social Enterprise Competition UWA Final
An Anti-Poverty Week Event
The Big Idea invites students to develop a concept and business plan for a social enterprise or social business with a mission to change the lives of disadvantaged people. It is a national competition delivered by The Big Issue and this year, UWA is one of the 11 university partners.
At this event, five teams of undergraduate UWA students will pitch to an expert judging panel. The winner of this event will go through to compete at the national finals.
For this competition, social enterprises must fit the following criteria:
- Operate as an Not For Profit
- Deliver an activity or function that creates social outcomes
- Be financially sustainable in the mainstream marketplace and be scalable
In 2014, ACOSS revealed that poverty has been increasing in Australia. The social enterprises being pitched in this competition will aim to meet the needs of homeless, marginalised or disadvantaged people, either through meaningful work opportunities or other means.
Come along to support the teams, their commitment to addressing disadvantage in Australia, and their big ideas!
If a UWA team reaches the national grand final, they will travel to Melbourne to compete. Buying a ticket to this event will go towards the winning team's travel and the continuation of the competition in 2017.
Venue: Wesfarmers Lecture Theatre
Arrive at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
