About the exhibition

‘The Beauty of Stillness’

When a small patch of pure nature turned into a piece of art — it becomes a place to turn my eyes away from daily tasks and thoughts. The scenery is still and is modestly subordinated. It is my belief that scenic photography contains an angle that is overlooked by many and it has its own sense of novelty and beauty. It can be sung and recited. It is a song and a poem.

This exhibition is sponsored by Ozlamb UGG Australia and Aizela the Terrace.

Jim feels a deep connection with the beauty of scenery and, over a lifetime, have fallen deeply in love with it. He was one of many creative artist of the Great Northern Wilderness Etching Group. It had a strong influence on him at a very early age and is the origin of his love for scenic photography and is his most basic fundamental inspiration.

Instead of using paints and brushes, Jim is now using the camera to capture scenery. Although the medium has changed, his art is still being created with the same pair of eyes, the same capabilities and the same passion.

Landscape photographs often show a famous tourist destination or landmark, with the beauty of the photographs relying on the beauty of the location itself. Jim main focus is not on those. Instead, it may be a view of nooks or corners, a small piece of a wide field, an interesting shape, a tone or a group of colours. They often don't have a name, like monuments do, and because of their transient nature, it can be difficult to go back and re-shoot the same scene.

About the artist - Jim CHen

I am a painter and photographer. Instead of photo-like photo I intend to catch picture-like photos. My long been trained artistic eyes helped me to find the beauty of landscape and the Mother Nature, it may be a view of nooks or corners, a small piece of a wide field, an interesting shape, a tone or a group of colours. They often don't have a name, like monuments do, and because of their transient nature, it can be difficult to go back and re-shoot the same scene.

My photographs have won Bronze Awards of International LOUPE Awards 2012 twice

and the Finalist of:

2nd C.P.N.O. INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHY (2010-Macau)

Australian Digital Photography Awards 2010

German International DVF-Photocup 2014

Cheltenham International Salon of Photography 2014 (UK).
