Event description

Thursday, 13th February 2020
Sun Studios - 42 Maddox St Alexandria NSW 2015

You’re invited to the opening night of The Battle, an annual photographic exhibition that channels Australia’s love of sport into financial support for important, meaningful work.

Each year, an experimental body of work inspired by a selected sport, is paired with a charity/not-for-profit to help raise awareness and generate funds for these important organisations that battle chronic diseases, illnesses and societal issues like domestic violence and homelessness.

Curated and guided by photographer Tim Jones, in collaboration with creative director Jason Little (of design agency For The People), the exhibition is

Is comprised of two major elements – photographic work by Tim Jones inspired by a chosen sport, as well as an artistic collaboration from some of Australia’s most renowned artists and illustrators

All funds generated go directly to the selected organisation for this inaugural Battle exhibition, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.

Tim and Jason believe Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is an organisation fighting an important battle – and for the inaugural Battle exhibition, want to support it by raising both awareness and money for the organisation.

This support will go towards initiatives such as Arterie, is an innovative interdisciplinary model of art in healthcare practice. This is specifically designed to improve outcomes for Chris O’Brien Lifehouse patients, families, carers and staff by easing the side effects of cancer and its treatment such as stress, pain, fatigue, isolation and depression. Arterie participates in a way that fits with the patient’s treatment – it is non-invasive, inclusive and supportive.

2020 THEME

Tim has collaborated with some of Sydney’s finest athletes, to capture the beauty and dynamism of this enigmatic and unfamiliar world.

The artistic collaboration explores the art of the fencing mask.

We all face difficult battles in life – against disease, or mental health issues, or inequality, or homelessness.

The team behind THE BATTLE have seen such fights firsthand.

Jason lost his father to cancer.

More recently, Tim lost his mother to cancer.

This motivated them to take the skills and experience gained over 20 years in the creative industry, and use them to help people who are in tough fights of their own.
