When asked to consider 'Imagine if your client could see your every thought' the typical response varies from a guilty wince, to an acknowledging smile, to a gasp or nervous chuckle. Each person remembering the many times they weren't present with their clients. This accidental confession reveals an absence of mindfulness. Awareness is the precursor to mindfulness, and mindfulness allows knowledge to be applied with wisdom. It is this last combination that produces the best kind of health professional. This means that since mindfulness starts with awareness, then awareness is essential to being a health professional.
EAP is an acronym of Enhances Awareness Program. As the name suggests, at EAPMentor we help people to live their lives with expanded awareness. It is a spiritual mentoring program where the definition of spiritual is 'the values that arise from what you desire most, which inspires your actions, thoughts and emotions'. Where other forms of intervention tend to focus on changing thoughts, feelings and behaviours, EAP helps you to observe and reflect on the want or desire that informs your values. It's this awareness that fosters change.
Besides exploring how EAP could serve you professionally, please also consider the notion that you could also become an EAP Mentor and touch the lives of your clients in a much more holistic way. The mission of EAPMentor is to train and support enough people in using the Enhances Awareness Program to have a global critical mass aligned with desires and values that lead to inner stillness, peace and healing.
Day One commences with the exploration of a healing philosophy based on the etymology of the words health and disease. Your personal healing philosophy is the keel that stabilises your approach as a health professional. You will then explore your values and how they serve as your rudder. Knowing what they are and how they arise is essential for maintaining good practice. You will learn how fundamental 'being aware' is to healing, and through the profiling activity in The Aware Health Professional Booklet, you will be able to self-assess your current state of awareness. You will learn about the five principles of awareness, which give insights into the nature of awareness. From the profiling you better understand how you function Mentally, Physically, Emotionally and Spiritually, and how that impacts on your work. Finally you will see how your core wants impact on your work.
Day Two is dedicated to better understanding what we at EAP call 'Your Life-Sentence'. We call it that because the behaviours, attitudes and beliefs that arise out of your life-sentence keep you imprisoned in a state of consciousness that typically results in burnout, depression, financial stress, infidelity and loneliness (just to name a few). More commonly referred to as your story, this limiting belief fuels your wants, which define what you valueIn my new book 'Get Out of Jail Card' I share my own story of imprisonment (of consciousness) and freedom, which I use throughout this workshop to illustrate this concept. You will become familiar with the symptoms of your own life-sentence as it is expressed through your four states of consciousness (Mental, Physical, Emotional and Spiritual) and the five points of focus (Professional Development, Self Nurturance, Personal Wellbeing, Professional Accountability and Social Integration). Using real-life examples, you will see how its possible that your life-sentence is handicapping your work as a health professional.
Once you are aware of your life-sentence you are free to sustainably maintain mindfulness. Then you will more successfully integrate your skill and knowledge with wisdom. People are desperately seeking this type of health professional!
