At a time when many large companies are shedding thousands of jobs; industries such as manufacturing are undergoing a reinvention, and virtually every sector is being transformed by technology, the panel will explore the influence of large corporates on employment, local communities, education, the environment and Australia’s image globally.

Speakers:

Jason Pellegrino
Managing Director, Google Australia and New Zealand

Jason Pellegrino is Google’s Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, Jason was responsible for Google’s business strategy and commercial capabilities across the Asia Pacific region.

Jason has been with Google for 7 years in a variety of roles, including Sales Director, Australia and Head of Strategy & Sales Operations for Google’s Australia & New Zealand business.

Prior to Google, Jason spent over 15 years in Corporate Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions and Sales & Marketing in retail, technology and consumer product industries with LEK Consulting, PepsiCo International & KPMG.

Jason holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Wollongong and an MBA (Distinction) from The London Business School, where he served as President of the Student Association and as a member of the school's Board of Governors.

Jason is a member of the Innovation Taskforce of the Business Council of Australia, a member of ASIC's External Advisory Panel and a Board member of Plan International.


Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz
CEO & MD, Mirvac Group

Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz was appointed Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director in August 2012 and a Director of Mirvac Board in November 2012.

Prior to this appointment, Susan was Managing Director at LaSalle Investment Management. Susan has also held senior executive positions at MGPA, Macquarie Group and Lend Lease Corporation, working in Australia, the US and Europe.

Susan has been involved in the real estate industry for over 28 years, with extensive experience in investment management in both the direct and indirect markets, development, mergers and acquisitions, disposals, research and business strategy.

Susan is also National President of the Property Council of Australia, a Director of the Shopping Centre Council of Australia and the Green Building Council of Australia, a member of the NSW Public Service Commission Advisory Board, President of INSEAD Australasian Council and a member of the INSEAD Global Board.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Sydney and an MBA (Distinction) from INSEAD (France).


Mike Henry
President Operations, Minerals Australia, BHP

Mike joined BHP Billiton in 2003 and served as President, Coal from January 2015 to February 2016 when he was appointed President Operations, Minerals Australia.

Prior to January 2015, he was President, HSE, Marketing & Technology. His earlier career with BHP Billiton included a number of commercial roles covering both Minerals and Petroleum, including the role of Chief Marketing Officer.

John Lehmann
Editor, The Australian

John Lehmann was appointed editor of The Australianin March 2016, after more 20 years working as a journalist in Australia, the US and Asia.

He has covered crime in New York, riots in Hong Kong detention centres, Vladimir Putin’s Olympic Games and media business in Sydney.

On September 11, 2001, he found himself running towards the World Trade Centre when the twin towers collapsed and reported closely on the FBI's investigation into Osama bin Laden.

Lehmann is a former editor-in-chief of Australia’s storied The Bulletinmagazine, was editor at large of Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph and news editor of the New York Post's Sunday edition.

He understands the challenges facing Australian businesses, having managed a $50m liquor distribution company for four years.
