Event description

Description

Unclutter, unwind and learn about the elegance of Ikebana floral art at an introductory half-day workshop in The Calyx. Sandy Marker, senior teacher in the modern Sogetsu School of Ikebana, will teach you the basic techniques of Ikebana, so you can create unique floral artworks at home.

Ikebana is the celebration of the beauty and mystery of nature. Ikebana floral art consists of only a minimal number of blooms interspersed with branches and leaves – simplicity and graceful lines are key. Once the exclusive province of the aristocracy and Samurai class in Japan, the 500-year-old tradition was taken up by Japanese women in the late 19th century and is now practised all over the world. Stunning examples of modern Ikebana can be seen in homes, hotel lobbies and restaurants. Come along to this fabulous workshop and learn to create your own!

Includes floral materials to learn with and take home.
